		<description>I would submit that the BCS is the best thing to happen to college football.  Now that pro sports thoroughly dominate the market, the college game needs something to make up the difference in talent and quality of play, and a gimmick is the best way to do it.  Basketball has its unreasonably large (and gambling-friendly) tournament, and football has the endless arguments that the "national championship" engenders.

Add in the fact that most of college sports is identity politics played out on the gridiron, hardwood, field, whatever, and the perceived slights, alliances, etc. simply cause more people to pay attention to the sport than would otherwise.</description>
