OK, if Bonds gets an asterisk for steroids, I say we put an asterisk next to the names of all the guys who used amphetamines too. Otherwise, no asterisk.

I want the Spurs to win in 4 games so that they'll stop talking about friggin' basketball already!

In re: Goodell and the other commishes, I've been reading America's Game by Michael MacCambridge, which chronicles the history of pro football and brings all sorts of fascinating things to light concerning Bert Bell and Pete Rozelle (I haven't gotten to the Tagliabue era yet) as well as the many different personalities from Paul Brown to Tex Shramm who've built the game. I highly recommend it, as it will help you appreciate even more than you already do what sort of role models Goodell has to look back to in his stewardship.

It probably goes without saying that we are of like mind regarding Barry Bonds.

I am a proponent of the asterisk. However, I would want the aseterisk placed there only if Bonds is found guilty of a crime involving the use or cover-up of the use of steroids. That, or Selig making a press conference and saying we have absolute proof that he broke the rules of baseball and therefore, the record books should be altered.

I hope someday to be considered one of Perich's "speculators of the game."

Indeed, Perich. I just plain hate the guy. And I don't want a guy I hate to be in the record books.

It bugs me when sportswriters and other speculators of the game argue that, if Bonds breaks the records, he should have an asterisk after his name in the record books or some goofy shit like that. I don't like the precedent that sets. Do we stop counting Babe Ruth's last couple of homers because pitchers started softballing him? Do we put an asterisk next to Ted Williams' record because he took a few years off for the war?

However, if it's a question of merely *praying* that he not break the record because of *intense personal dislike*, I can agree with that sentiment entirely.
