It's amazing, the Yanks just got done paying Carl Pavano close to 10 million per win (5 wins, 40 mil, and back to the DL. Gotta love it), and here they are doing it again with Roger.

I'd be shocked if he notched more than 5 wins this year - the last two years was spent pitching against teams that would have a tough time dealing with the Pawtucket Red Sox lineup, and there is no way in hell he will be pitching past the 6th inning. Still, it's always good to see George flush some more money down the drain :)

You got it right with your "god complex" line. If anything, this shows to us what exactly motivates Clemens... His own ego. He gets to be the highest paid player AND play the hero. That beats the PR spin of a "return to your where you started to help them win it all" or "play at home with your son" move any day of the week.

Oh, I don't think the conversation was special at all. I don't think Clemens was moved or felt as if his resolve and desire to compete was steeled by the owners' soothing voice.

What I think the conversation did was show Clemens that Steinbrenner was going to get him. And for Clemens, that would be very special.

"And George Steinbrenner had a private conversation with him in the spring that Clemens noted was very special to him."

Seriously??? Do you think the private conversations Steinbrenner had with Clemens really mattered??? Well, maybe when they were deciding between 27 and 28 mil. I don't think I can take anything you say to heart if you believe Clemens has an ounce of sentimentality in him.
